The plant protection product CHLORPYRIPHOS -48, already authorized for many other pests, has been now authorized on palm trees to fight the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) and the trunk borer Paysandisia archon.

The Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs has resolved TO AUTHORIZE the plant protection products formulated with CHLORPYRIPHOS -48 EC to fight the PALM TREES pests Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and Paysandisia archon.

It was an old demand of the nursery sector that finally has succeeded thanks to the Catalan Department of Agriculture.

The CHLORPYRIPHOS -48 EC is useful to fight against Paysandisia archon, furthermore when authorized products on palm tree until now do not have enough effectiveness. In Girona nurseries frequent periodical treatments, wetting the top of the palm trees very very well, are made, and a record of the made treatments is available for inspection. The Plant Health Service of the Department of Agriculture makes a strict control of palm tree nurseries, inspecting the palm trees one by one at least every three months, to give authorization to issue Plant Passports.
